Arshile Gorky was an Armenian –  American painter. He has a great contribution to the world of Abstract Expressionism. Gorky is considered to be the one of the most powerful American painters of the 20th century.  His work can also be significant since it so directly reflects the cultural and historical milieu of New York in the 1940s, where avant-garde artists from the United States and Europe converged, and of the postwar period generally when existentialist philosophy prevailed. This philosophy proclaimed the absurdity of life at the same time as it called upon humans to take responsibility for creating their particular meaning – which Gorky did by creating beauty out of personal tragedy.

During creation process of  this 2d animated video our studio team was very excited, because Gorky is one of the heroes of our animators.

The Challenge
Showcase the genius of maestro’s masterpieces. Bring to the motion the artist’s inspiration: memories of his childhood in the motherland, gardens, corn fields and age old spirit of the Armenian nation.

The Solution
All of our motion designers  realized that regular 2d motion graphics would not be the solution that the customer was expecting from our studio. Honesty we did not like that idea too, because we wanted to create something special. Hakob, our senior motion designer suggested to make the video with watercolor painting effect. He made a draft and everybody unanimously agreed that the idea was great and everything else fell into place very fast. Designers of our motion graphics studio did their best so we can see how masterpieces of the maestro were reanimating on the screen. We were very happy paying our respect by creating an animated video for 110th anniversary of the genuine. To one and only – Arshil Gorky.
