Club organizers are almost always hobbyists or fans who are volunteering their own time to schedule meets, contact members, etc. The last thing they want to do is spend that time hunting down old emails, trying to figure out who’s coming to the next meeting, and more. It’s a common problem to talk about, but how can we convey that frustration visually?
The first thing we did was agree on a theme - ping pong. Our hero leads a ping pong club and is responsible for all the parts that go along with that, including the previously mentioned frustrations. One of the great things about animated explainer videos is we can create metaphors that you can’t do easily with live-action, like showing her hitting away or juggling tasks as if they were ping pong balls. And although the script was built around the ping pong club world, it’s a universally understood game, making it an engaging and easy-to-get metaphor for any viewer.
