Client: Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE)
Focus: Fair fisheries, healthy seas, and vibrant coastal communities
Over 60,000 small-scale European fishers struggle to sustain their way of life. Industrial fleets deplete fish stocks, distort market prices, and jeopardize traditions that have existed for centuries. LIFE, a pan-European network, works to address these challenges but needed a powerful story to amplify their message.
After diving deeper into the problem, we realized that a regular explainer video production wouldn’t be enough. LIFE’s mission called for an emotional story. While exploring their past work, we came across a documentary featuring a Spanish fisher and a young woman. Each morning, before sunrise, they ventured to sea, and his words resonated deeply:
This moment became the heart of our story. We chose them as the central heroes, traveling across countries and representing the collective impact LIFE has on fishers, seas, and communities.
We created an impactful nonprofit video production that transformed LIFE’s work into a relatable and emotional journey. Through dynamic visuals and authentic storytelling, the video conveyed the struggles of small-scale fishers while showcasing LIFE’s grassroots advocacy and political wins.
• LIFE played a key role in the 2019 European Parliament ban on electric pulse trawling.
• Supported French fishers in a 2021 court win for fair bluefin tuna quotas, setting an EU-wide precedent.
• Progressed equitable co-management systems in five Mediterranean countries.
• Advocated for gender equity through partnerships like ACTA, supporting women in fisheries.
The video captured the emotional essence of small-scale fishing communities and LIFE’s work. It amplified their voice, raised awareness, and drove support for fairer fisheries. By combining storytelling and advocacy, the project demonstrated how effective nonprofit video production can drive meaningful action.
Through an emotional, human-centered story, LIFE’s message resonated across borders. Their mission to empower fishers and protect the seas came to life, proving that storytelling can inspire real change for people and the planet.
